With the adoption of the renewed Cotonou Agreement, local governments have officially been recognized as partners for development. It is the intention of ARIAL Programme, to support LGA’s in assuming the role of a vocal development partner for national government, but also for international donors (especially the Glossary Link European Union).


During the course of the ARIAL Programme, a number of activities will be organized in order to train and coach the LGA’s in this respect. As a first step, it is important for a local government association (at the national, regional or sub-continental level) to know the jargon of your development partners, as well as the context of the current discussion on capacity building priorities at the local level in your country. This section of the website will facilitate this step, by providing links to two important EU documents per country in the  Glossary Link ACP group of states: one is the Country Strategy and the other the Annual Report. These two documents contain concrete information on how the European Union, an important development partner, views the current local government situation in your country and what the EU’s development plans and ideas are in this field.


In the future we will expand this section to contain information on other relevant development partners as well.
