Local Government Associations prepare for participation in political dialogue

Through the ARIAL programme, Local Government Associations in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific have been trained on how to improve their communication, lobby and policy strategies as well as how to take a role in the dialogue on development policies with national institutions and development partners.

Collection of Good Practices underway

Local Government Associations, with the assistance of their Regional Umbrella Associations are in the process of collecting Good Practices for publication, distribution and display at the ARIAL regional final seminars to take place in June / July 2013.

Emerging Associations Facility

ELGAF update

The 6 associations recently granted ELGAF support have been hard at work with the ARIAL programme on the setting up of or revitalization of their respective associations. Since the last update Emerging Local Government Associations have been recruiting new staff, receiving technical assistance and planning seminars.

Emerging LGAs of Belize, Dominica, Zanzibar, Sierra Leone, and Marshall Islands have planned their activities for the last months of the ARIAL programme

Through the Emerging Local Government Facility (ELGAF), emerging associations receive tailor-made support aiming at the establishment and strengthening of capacities of local government associations in countries where no or weak associations exist.

Regional Umbrella Associations plan for life after ARIAL

The East African Local Government Association (EALGA), the Southern African Regional Office of UCLG Africa (SARO), the West African Regional Office of UCLG Africa (WARO), and the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA) have been meeting to plan their exit strategies for the finalization of ARIAL.
